Dental hygiene visits form a key part of any healthy adult’s oral health maintenance.
Not only do they help to keep your gum disease risk low, but hygiene appointments also leave you with stain-free teeth and fresh breath.
Introduction to dental hygienist visits
Treatment time: 25-50 minutes (depending on the amount of cleaning required).
Purpose: To clean away plaque and tartar from your gum line/to help patients avoid gum disease.
Results: Helps to preserve your natural teeth and keep your gums disease-free/reduces unpleasant symptoms associated with gum disease.
Equip yourself with the confidence to smile
Having the reassurance that you no longer have plaque and tartar lingering on your gum line can be incredibly helpful for your confidence. More importantly, though, removing these harmful substances will stop inflammation of your gums and subsequent bone deterioration.
The other threat arising from biofilm buildup on your gums is heart disease, which can occur once plaque and tartar enter the bloodstream. Our dentists are incredibly passionate about helping patients avoid this and providing support on how to become more conscientious with brushing and flossing in the future.
Vital education to benefit your oral health
Our hero dentists and hygienists are also great communicators who can tell you where you might be going wrong with your diet and oral hygiene routine.
Simple demos using brushes and dental floss can help to make all the difference to your technique, which will help you avoid problems like:
- Gum recession: When gums pull away from your teeth due to vigorous brushing style.
- Interdental plaque: When plaque forms between your teeth due to lack of flossing or poor flossing technique.
- Bleeding gums: This can occur due to a lack of flossing.
- Gum disease.
- Tooth decay: When all your tooth surfaces don’t receive a uniform clean.
FAQs
How does the dentist get rid of staining along my gum line?
Your dentist or hygienist will use a combination of hand-scaling equipment and Airflow® Polishing. Our dentists have a light and gentle touch when removing plaque and tartar and will regularly stop to check you are comfortable throughout the cleaning process.
What is Airflow® polishing?
Our Airflow® machine is a combination of water, air, and powder particles capable of reaching and removing tenacious staining. It is excellent for patients with significant biofilm across their teeth, such as patients who smoke or who have not visited the hygienist in some time.
I’m embarrassed about the state of my teeth – will I be criticised for neglecting them?
Absolutely not. Our dentists are kind and caring professionals who will never judge or criticise any patient.
We pride ourselves on making each and every one of our patients feel welcome, valued and respected. We sincerely look forward to taking care of you and guiding you with your oral health.
